  1. Very very best wishes for the Man UP conference. Disappointed to be missig out on Man UP conference. I think I didn't qualify as being too old- I remeber there waws a reason I thought I was ineligible. Look forward to hearing about the deliberations and making use of findings in our work. If you have any resources you'd like us to add to ending violence against women send to our website and we'll add it.
  2. I think the first place, and most important place to start is with educating women worldwide. Many women do not know that the despicable act of domestic violence is wrong, and so continue life presuming that abuse is the norm and blame themselves when "they've done wrong". This skewed ideology must be tackled. In Islam, men and women alike have to seek knowledge, suggesting the importance of knowledge. When one knows his/her rights as a child, a parent, a husband or wife, a neighbor, etc, they will know what is good and bad for them, and hopefully find something better. This organization is a great initiative in exposing this issue and endeavoring to provide solutions and more importantly, hope.
  3. I think there is a whole lot of impeccability in the conception of such a summit, centered around the World Cup and also regarding the sustainable continuity of our world!!!
  4. Its great for us to KICK VIOLENCE against women, as we kick start the world cup in South Africa. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to tell world leaders that we are going beyond Africa, beyond cooperation and beyond institutions to showcase the need for a ONE voice to see the reverse or eradication of violence against women. Come on fellow delegates, lets shine brightest in this issue, as this is our time which will never come so easy again. Greetings from Sierra Leone.
  5. The word "Man" have been used over and again as generic term for both sexes which I perceived been gender bias. The only sentence I hate and will continue to hate in my country Sierra Leone and all over the world is “Behind every successful man there must be a woman”. Women are not tails to be behind always. And why should there be woman behind successful man without a man being behind successful woman? I hope the summit will give us chance to deliberate on this. For me I believe “with (not behind) every successful man or woman, there must be a partner be it man or woman”.
  6. I truly hope this summit is more than just an event for most of the men attending! In that participants leave with knowledge and an attitude of how to do things differently! More of the same is not going to get us anywhere! I think one of the challenges in penetrating this issue, is the fact that Governments & Government agencies do not have a systematic action-plan to follow... policies, etc, and a budget to address GBV holistically. Most victims do not know how to get help and the ones that try have such bad experiences. Civil society needs to hold government accountable and pressure them to play a leadership role. Sure we want to do something but running around responding to fires when we are not creating an environment and setting up a system in place to prevent it and punish perpetrators. We also need to counsel perpetrators too (mostly men), that's another thing we forget sometimes. What we tolerate and encourage in the socialization of young men and boys that a whole other discussion!
  7. I really appriciate this event. I hope by doing so, more and more poeple will understand the woman's poor situation and come to join with us to eleminate the violence against women.
  8. I have heard many news about wife accidentally kills her husband when he uses physical strength against her almost everyday. This awful behavior provokes her anger and she finally kill him. This usually happens in the countryside when the husband is drunk and when he runs out of money and he violate his wife. If he didn't do this in the first place, it wouldn't have resulted in this way. I hope we can get rid of such a violence.
  9. There would have been no better way to spread this message to a larger audience than using the world cup tournament. When women are free from violence, then, the global village will truly connect.
  10. The ManUp Initiative of time and would be very impacting. For the first time, the world's young people would arise to delete the word "violence' from the vocabulary of our time. Together, we'll definitely make it work, anywhere, anytime.
  11. This is a great work. Keep it Up. Join the Commonwealth Youth of Nigeria Google Group or visit our website www.fbi-nigeria.org
